St Peter’s is the parish church of St Peter’s, St James’ and St Andrews Parish and is situated in the lovely seaside village of Heysham.

The church as we see it now dates from the Saxon period (8th century) but the original church was probably Celtic (6th century).

The church is right beside the sea with views across Morecambe Bay to the mountains of Cumbria.

The church contains many important artifacts including the world-famous ‘Hog Back Stone’ (Viking gravestone).

St Peter’s is normally open for visitors Monday to Saturday 10.30 am – 3pm.

The service for Remembrance Sunday will be on Sunday, 9th November 2025 at 10.45 with the Act of Remembrance and the laying of wreaths.

St Peters Church

Our celebration of Harvest will be on Sunday, 28th September at 10.45.  Donations for the food bank are very welcome.

Flowers to remember loved ones

As St Peter’s has now re-opened, it is possible to arrange to have a flower arrangement in church as a remembrance for someone special to you, and this helps us keep flowers in church all year round. Also if you are getting married in St Peter’s during the year, we can help you with your arrangements.

Please contact Sue Wattam on 01524 852716 or Syl Welberry on 01524 853906 or email: syl.welberry@talktalk.net to arrange this.

We are also happy for anyone to join our friendly group to help with the church flowers. Again, please contact Sue or Syl above.

St Peter’s Church Choir

St Peter’s Church Choir currently has a regular membership of about ten and we welcome new members. Our rehearsals are usually on Thursdays from 7.30pm in the church and our Organist and Choirmaster is Kevin Leece.

We enjoy a varied programme of music both old and new under his direction. Apart from the regular support for the services, we also sing anthems during the Communion service and put on  the service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Christmas.
