The Glebe Garden belongs to St Peter’s Church in Heysham and as designated as a Community Garden by the Diocese of Blackburn as such in 1989. Since then, it has been used by the public as a green space to rest and enjoy. Plants have been donated to remember relatives and friends; a book is in the church with the names. In the garden along the left handwall on entrance and also in the centre bed can be found the official red rose of Lancashire – Rosa Gallica var. officinalis, the first being planted by Mr. Eric James, JP – Her Majesty’s Constable of Lancaster Castle on 27th November 1998
Come and have a look round and see what you can find, there are things for children to spot too! Bring a picnic and get a takeaway coffee from our church hall coffee shop, sit and enjoy the birds and the peace and quiet.
The garden is beautifully maintained by a group of volunteer gardens who work on a Tuesday morning between 10am and 12am, if you would like to help, come and meet them or would like more information – get in touch with heyshampja@gmail.com
