The new St James’ Centre was opened in 1998.  It is beside the Old Hall pub in Heysham Road (LA3 2RT) and is used as a Parish, Community and Worship Centre.

We hold All Age services each week at St. James church starting at 9:15am. The services are mainly quite light, non-traditional and modern themed so therefore good for families with younger children and teens…

The services run each week apart from when there is a 5th Sunday in the month – in this instance we sometimes do not hold a service, however you would be informed of this prior to the date.

We follow this pattern of services

1st Sunday of the month – All Age Service with no Breakout.

2nd Sunday of the month – All Age Service with ‘Breakout’ – this is where during the service the children leave for approximately 20 to 30 mins to be taught about the service theme in a child friendly way… the adults/parents/carers remain in the service listening to a more adult sermon unless their children are particularly young or anxious, then we recommend a parent joins us for Breakout too.
3rd Sunday  of the month – All Age Service of Holy Communion

4th Sunday of the month – same as the 2nd Sunday – All Age Service with Breakout.
If there is a 5th Sunday in a month there is sometimes no 9:15am service however as previously stated, you will be informed of this prior to the date.So the term ‘Breakout’ is basically very similar to Sunday School.

If you prefer a more traditional service then there is a 10:45am service at St. Peter’s church in Heysham Village every week however this may not suit younger children.

We would love to welcome you to one of our services soon.

The St James’ Centre is used for worship, but also hosts a variety of parish and community activities.
There are two modern halls with a glass-fronted connecting lobby, a well-equipped kitchen, a good car park and grounds. The centre has an award for disabled access and facilities.
